Prof. Ambassador Pablo Macedo

Ambassador Pablo Macedo has been the Deputy Permanent Representative of Mexico to International Organizations in Geneva since 2002. He is the Honorary Dean of the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations for 2006.

Born in Mexico City in 1958, he holds a Law Degree from the National University of Mexico and a Masters Degree on National Security by the Defence College of Mexico. He joined the Foreign Service of his country in 1982., and served in the Permanent Mission to the Conference on Disarmament, Geneva (1983-1989) and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York (1989-1991 and 1994-2002). In the Foreign Ministry, he has been Head of Section in the United Nations Department (1981-1983), Director in the Department for North America Affairs (1992-1993) and Chief of Staff to the Foreign Minister (1993). He was promoted to the rank of Ambassador in December 2001.

He has been a member of the Delegation of Mexico to many international conferences, including almost every session of the United Nations General Assembly from 1982 to 2001, Review Conferences of multilateral disarmament agreements, the United Nations Millennium Summit, the World Summit on the Information Society, and others. He has been elected to several international positions, such as Chairman of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee of the 53rd United Nations General Assembly (1998); Vice-Chairman of Commission A (Questions of International Humanitarian Law) of the 28th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (2003), and Chairman of the Working Group on Situations of the Commission on Human Rights (2004). He occupied the Presidency of the Conference on Disarmament in May-June 2004.
