Ambassador Nicholas Thorne Speaks At Guest Luncheon

1st March 2008

The Geneva School of Diplomacy was privileged to host Ambassador Nick Thorne, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva at the special guest lunch this month. He eloquently updated students and faculty on current events in the field of Human Rights, elaborating on the behind-the-scenes working of the Human Rights Council, which will be meeting for its main session for 2008 in Geneva early next week.

Ambassador Thorne was frank, sincere and definitive on matters relating to Human Rights and the Human Rights Council, making special mention of the importance of the panel discussion on religion and culture on this session’s agenda.

President Murphy applauded Ambassador Thorne’s speech and reiterated to the students in attendance the need for diplomats to engage in a dialogue with both perceived friend and foe alike in the crucial struggle of advancing human rights around the globe.
